Our final stop in Ireland was to the magnificent Blarney Castle.
This castle originally dates back to 1200, when a wooden structure was believed to have been built on the site, although no evidence remains of this. Around 1210 this was replaced by a stone fortification. It was then destroyed in 1446, but subsequently rebuilt.
At the very top of the castle lies the Blarney Stone. If you hang upside-down to kiss the stone, it's said that you'll gain the gift of eloquence.
I thought that I'd be brave enough to kiss the stone, but after hiking the gazillion stairs to the top I immediately panicked in fear, and got the heck out of there as fast as I could. My brave papa and hubby are true heroes, and are now appearing to be quite eloquent.
Although the castle itself wasn't a pleasant experience for me, the grounds are breathtaking and probably my favorite yet. I can only imagine the beauty during warmer months. Seriously stunning.
Dear Ireland,
I completely love you, and am anxious to visit you again. please oh please don't be so cold next time, and could you please hold back on that dreadful wind.
But seriously, it was amazing visiting such a beautiful place, and with dream company too!
Until next time,
A loving tourist
